How it Works?

Step 1: Choose Your Quest

Choose a QUEST that interests you.

Step 2: Plan and Select Your Books

In each quest, you are required to read 5 book units in total.

1 book unit =  100 to 399 pages

2 book units = 400 to 799  pages

3 book units = 800 + pages

Select titles of books that meet the criteria of the quest. You need at least 2 titles to start a quest.

Warning: Books that are set as coursework in school cannot be considered.

For example, Sally chose her 5 units with this combination:

Book 1: 350 pages (1 book unit)

Book 2: 802 pages (3 book units)

Book 3: 170 pages (1 book unit)

Step 3: Record Your Books

Fill in an online Quest Intention form.

You will need the following information:

  •  Title

  • Author

  • ISBN (International Standard Book Number, usually found on the back cover)

  • Total page numbers.

Fill in all the details online on this form as best as you can at the start of your quest. You must have at least selected a minimum of 2 books.

When the form is submitted, you will receive an email acknowledgement with a link that allows you to make changes to your submission later. Please continue to keep this updated.

This step of the process is important for the Library team to start handmaking your Quest Keychain Charm and certificate, rewards you will receive at the completion of your quest. Please do not wait until the completion of the quest to fill this in.

A physical Quest Log card is available at the Issue Desk in the SIC. You can record your books on this card and use it as a bookmark as you attempt this quest.

Step 4: Read

Enjoy reading your book! You can use the Quest Log card as a bookmark to remind you of your quest.

Step 5: Design Your Advertisement

After reading a book, design your own advertisement for your completed book. Select components of your advertisement from the Advertisement Menu. You are asked to consider:

Where you intend your advertisement to be seen?

How do you want to show your ideas?

What do you want to focus on?

Why are you making this advertisement?

You just pick one answer to each question

You need to select a unique combination of Where-How-What-Why for each book advertisement you make in a quest. This is clarified on the email submission by simply identifying your selected answer to each question.

Step 6: Submit Your Advertisement

Complete the advertisement for each book. Check with someone from the library team  if you are unsure.

Email the advertisement to acgpsic@acg.ac.nz.

More details are found in the section below (Advertisement Task). You should not repeat any one combination of Where-How-What-Why  within one quest.

In the above example, Sally, who has read 3 books, would have to complete 3 advertisement tasks for her 3 books.

Please include ALL of the following details in your submission email:

  • Name:

  • ID Number:

  • Quest:

  • Book Title:

  • Where:

  • How:

  • What:

  • Why

  • Your Instagram username (if you wished to be tagged):

  • Caption for post (if any):

  • Declaration : I have used images/video/music that were either created by me or that have a Creative Common License

Remember:

  • Before you submit your advertisement, you must first fill in the Quest Intention Form.

  • You must update details of your Quest Intention form through a link in the acknowledgement email sent when you first fill the form.

  • You must come up with new combinations of Where-How-What-Why for each book you have read in the quest.

Step 7: Collect Your Reward

Once 5 book units are read and the advertisement for each book is submitted, bring your completed Quest Log card to SIC library issue desk. You can collect your respective handmade Quest Keychain Charm and Quest certificate when it is ready.

Completion of 3 quests earns you the right to claim SIC Reader's Quest as an Extra Curricular Activity at the end of the 2022 school year.

Deciding, designing and executing your advertisement is easy. Choose ONE from each of these:

Why?

Your REASON: Why are you making this advertisement?

Your intended audience are your friends finding their next book to dive into. Do what you can to catch their attention, whip up their interest and pique their curiosity. The more novel and engaging, the better. Pick at least one objective to focus on.

What?

Your CONTENT: What do you want to focus on?

Do you want to share your favourite quotes, or describe your thoughts on a certain character? You could also share what made you enjoy the book and write to your heart’s content! Be authentic. Choose one focus. You are not expected to tell us the whole story! Your content could be divided into the image/video component or the captions... you decide.

How?

Your METHOD: How do you want to show your work?

Presenting the content to your friends can be in different forms. Write a paragraph, read it out on video, or even draw a picture or comic! Pick the one effective way to deliver the message in an engaging way. You can choose to go low (on paper) or high tech (digital). Refer to section "Where?" for details. Important to note that any images/video or music needs to be either created by you or have Creative Commons Licence. You need to submit with a declaration.

Where?

Your PLATFORM: Where do you intend your task to be seen?

Your task can appear physically in the SIC either as pop-up cards or on the noticeboard. Since the SIC has several online platforms like the SIC website, Instagram and even Youtube, you can make digital content too! Pick one platform and follow the suggested format. If you need an editor, you could use Canva or Pixlr. Don't worry if you are not able to make digital versions of your advertisement. You can create your advertisements on paper and submit that. We will take a picture of it for our online platforms. You do however need to take note of the aspect ratio of your advertisement. Alternatively, you could take a picture of it and submit the jpg file.
