Blackout Poetry Contest

Blackout Poetry Corner at the SIC gave students the opportunity to create poems from established texts. Students, provided with a space, pages of texts to choose from, colour pencils and markers, put their artistic and poetic talents to work.

After selecting and redacting words into a poetic verse, unwanted words are "blackouted" in a relevant and visually appealing manner to create a work of art.

This entry by Judy Zhu demonstrates artistry.

Winners Eric Lu (3rd), Maya Modgill (1st) and Kate Flint (2nd) smiles for the camera here after receiving a poetry book each for their outstanding efforts in this contest. Their blackout poems were picked out by Mrs Curtis, who first suggested this for the SIC.
