What you need to know
Literary classics are books that remained popular through several decades, sometimes even centuries. They are often rich in both language and content, embedding well-loved and relatable themes. Their eloquent and artistic expression of ideas result in them being continually recommended. Linguists might consider them part of the literary canon, a standard by which all other literature is measured against. So it will be wise for one to read and even study these classics to have a better grasp of how ideas can be expressed effectively.
Although these books may have been written a while ago, they contain universal truths that are still relevant today. Like being presented with exquisite gourmet food after being fed a diet of nutritionally void fast foods, you will surely be blown away by the depth you will find in these books, leaving you wanting more.
For this quest, books that are considered modern classics can also be read. Be aware that some classics may be originally written in another language and that there may be several translations available.

Reader Profile
Old Souls love to immerse themselves with the best of the best. They are naturally wise beyond their years, often sought after for their insights or expertise. To them, depth is more valuable than breadth; the tried and tested is more trusted than the fresh and trendy. Their ethos is based on the belief that bodies of knowledge are built on foundations of culture and principles. As such, they actively seek for credible and validated external standards that sits well with their own values. These standards when discovered are assimilated as gospel truths, making Old Souls appear to be unmovable purists when any ideology is embraced. These grounded individuals, who love structure, can accommodate and respect individualism and variations if these fall within their internal quality systems. Creativity might not be their strong suit, but because they hold themselves strictly to esteemed standards, they are known to reliably produce excellence in whatever they do.
