SIC Reader's Quest

FAQs

Who can participate in the SIC Reader’s Quest?

Any SIC users capable of reading chapter books of more than 100 pages can participate. Because the Advertisement Tasks to complete after reading books are mostly posted on social media, you will need to be old enough or otherwise have permission from your parents to use such platforms.

Is the SIC Reader’s Quest free to enter?

Yes. It is free as of now. Later in the year, depending on popularity and availability of material, we may decide that readers have a choice to obtain the Quest Keychain Charm for a gold coin donation.

Can I attempt more than one quest at any one time?

It is highly recommended that you do ONE quest at a time. However, if you wish to and believe you are capable, you may attempt up to a maximum of three quests at a time. Please note that you will need to complete all the quests you have started by the end of the school year.

Am I allowed to go on the same quest more than once?

You cannot go on the same quest for this year until you have completed all 18 quests. Try to discover new ways of reading by attempting other quests.

Is there a limit to how many quests I can complete in a year?

No. In fact, if you can complete all 18 quests (no time limit) you will receive a special award!

How long will this program run for?

The SIC Reader’s Quest was formulated and first introduced in 2021. The library team plans to improve and run it every year from now on. For a clean start in the following year, we recommend that you complete quests that you have started this year by the end of term 3 (for Year 11 to 13) or Term 4 (for those Year 10 and below) and refrain from starting another until the beginning of the following year.

Book Selection / Record

Do I have to read books borrowed from the SIC?

No. You may read books or ebooks you have bought or borrowed from other libraries.

Which books cannot be used for quests?

As this is a reading quest, books that are light on the reading aspect will not be considered. Books will be added to this list as we evaluate them. Here are the ones that currently cannot be used:

- picture books

- graphic novels

- magazines

- textbooks for school coursework

- books used for school coursework

- revision guides for school subjects

- Diary of a Wimpy Kid

- Captain Underpants

- Geronimo Stilton

I am not sure if the book I have chosen can be used for quests. What should I do?

Please come to speak to Ms Sarah Toh about it at the SIC. You could also email the library team on acgpsic@acg.ac.nz.

Can I use books that I have read previously?

The aim of these quests is for you to read more from now on. We expect a high level of honesty in this regard and plead for you to not cheat yourself of this opportunity to discover new books. For this year, we are however willing to allow you to claim books read about the start of term 2 this year, up to a maximum of 2 books. The exception to this is the Rapid Reader Quest as that has special requirements. (Refer to Rapid Reader)

Can I use the same book for different quests?

No. You need to select and read different books for every quest you attempt. Some books may qualify for a couple of quests but you need to decide which one to “claim” that book for. That’s why planning ahead before you start any quest is essential.

Advertisement Task

Who do I send my advertisements to?

Please email your advertisements to acgpsic@acg.ac.nz. The library team will take some time to review your advertisements to see if they meet the requirements. We will get back to you in a week’s time.  If you are making a physical advertisement, hand it in at the issue desk in the SIC.

I would like to advertise the book I have read in a different way, can I do that?

We are open to ideas. Please speak to Ms Toh, our librarian, about it BEFORE you attempt the advertisement task.

Can I combine 2 or 3 books together into one advertisement?

You are encouraged to make one advertisement per book. However, if 2 or more books are meaningfully related, you may combine them into one single task. There must however be enough "WHAT" component for each book. (Refer to the Advertisement Menu.) This might be for example a more extensive discussion in the form of a compare and contrast of two books.

Rewards

What rewards are available?
