Read 5 units of books that are a mixture of fiction and non-fiction on a chosen theme.
What you need to know
If you have something you want to know about, chances are there’s a book for it. And if there’s one, chances are that there are twenty. As a deep diver, you need to explore multiple perspectives on the same issue or theme. Grab hold of questions that arise and pursue them.
What is the difference between this Deep Diver quest and Subject Scholar Quest?
The Deep Diver quest requires you to read a mixture of fiction and non-fiction while the Subject Scholar quest requires only non-fiction books. Also, in Deep Diver, you choose a theme but in the Subject Scholar quest, you choose a subject.
What is a theme?
A theme is an idea that relates to the topic of the book that the author uses to discuss, this can be done through the characters, the setting or other means. It may not be immediately apparent what themes are explored in any given book so reading reviews of books and researching online may be required. Try finding book recommendations by others on your chosen theme to help you select your books.
What is the difference between a theme and a subject?
The subject of a book is what the book is about, ie. the topic. The theme reveals the reason why the author wrote the book. It is the message that the writer wants to communicate, at times, not stated directly, but implied through a character’s or the author's thoughts and actions.
